Business Entrepreneurship |
|
|
BUSINESS VENTURES: This course is a project based learning course where the focus is business development. Students will learn all principles of entrepreneurship, creating solutions to problems that produce profit, how to make investments, and create business plans for the different types of businesses. In addition, students will perform business entrepreneurship apprentice challenges. To be enrolled in this course, you must have taken Introduction to Business. This is a year long course.
OFFERED TO GRADE 8.
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS: This course is a project based learning course that introduces the basic principles of business and business operations, emphasizing such skills as marketing, management, operation and finance, and self-sufficiency in today’s world. Students enrolled in this course will be given real world case studies in which you will have to apply the business principles taught to create business based problem solutions. Also you will be responsible for all the marketing and advertising of events at Fleming during the school year. This is a year long course.
OFFERED TO GRADES 7 AND 8.
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?: This course will explore the art of investing through various forms of investment methods including the Stock Market. Students will create a stock portfolio, research investment opportunities, and learn various ways to make money grow. This is a semester course.

Engineering |

PROJECT LEAD THE WAY (PLTW): This is a computer based learning course that is designed for students who may have in an interest in pursing the Engineering field. In this course, Computer Aided Drafting Software will be used to assist students with the construction of multi-view drawings which can develop into a 3-dimensional isometric drawing. PTLW II is for students who want to advance in their knowledge and have completed the course in grade 7. Both PLTW I and PLTW II are year long courses.
OFFERED TO GRADES 7 AND 8.
ROBOTICS: This course involves constructing robots with the use of Lego kits, Vex kits, NXT and other mechanical parts. With the use of the computer software, students program the robots to perform specific tasks. Robotics II is for students who want to advance in their knowledge and have completed the course in grade 7. Both Robotics I and Robotics II are year long courses.
OFFERED TO GRADES 7 AND 8.
SECME: This course is designed to engage students in math, science, and engineering through hands-on experiences in building mousetrap cars, egg drop containers, water rockets, and bridge building contests. SECME is an acronym for the Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering. SECME students compete with other students across the city of Houston in the spring semester on the campus of the University of Houston. Winners have an opportunity to advance to State and National competition.
OFFERED TO GRADES 6, 7 AND 8.
TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION: This is an overview course designed to increase the student’s understanding of the development and use of technology. The course provides an introduction to technology in the areas of bio-related technology, communication, computer applications, construction, energy, power, transportation, and manufacturing. Using hands-on problem solving and creative activities, students develop an understanding of technology and its impacts. Activities may include designing and making products, assessing technology, constructing models of buildings, using computers, investigating solar energy, and using tools and machines. This is a semester course, but students are encouraged to take the class for the full year.

KEYBOARDING: This course is designed for students to become aware of the history of computers, learn computer technology, learn letter keyboarding techniques, improve keyboarding/language skills (knowing basic machine parts, building skills and accuracy), develop speed building techniques, correct formatting and style, and to mold professional business and organizational skills. After successful completion of this course, students will be awarded high school credit. This is a semester course.
OFFERED TO GRADE 8.
TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS: This course teaches the basics in keyboarding, word processing, Internet research, graphics and how to use Microsoft Productivity Suite. Students will also learn to design multimedia projects. This is a semester long course and required for 6th and 7th grade students who have not taken a computer course.
